The artist is buried in salt by a saline worker.

In Burial, a project realised in 2019, the artist is buried by a salt pan worker. The performance was documented from two fixed-camera viewpoints, although only one of these recordings was later presented as an installation at Casa do Sal in Castro Marim, the site where the performance took place, and subsequently in other exhibitions.

The many associations of salt stem from the fact that it is extracted from seawater through evaporation. Salt is a symbol of purification and preservation. An essential seasoning and a physiological necessity, it is invoked in the liturgy of baptism; as the salt of wisdom, it also symbolises spiritual nourishment. The marnoto (salt pan worker) works in the salt pans every day, individually harvesting between six and seven tonnes of salt. The salt pan is located beside a cemetery, a coincidence that only became apparent on the day of the performance.
